UPDATE: Serbian air carrier JAT cancels flights due to technician strike
Published by Ahmed Sayem under on 1:35 مSerbian airline JAT (www.jat.com) canceled all its flights due to a strike by JAT Tehnika employees, who service all aircraft at Belgrade airport.
JAT Tehnika decided on Tuesday that it would stop aircraft maintenance because the airline owes JAT Tehnika more than 1.07 million euros (100 million dinars).
"All flights of the national airline are canceled because of the blackmail policy of representatives of JAT Tehnika,” JAT Airways Director Srdjan Radovanovic told reporters.
“The wrong decisions made by the government several years ago are the main reason for JAT’s debt. When JAT Tehnika was separated from the system, JAT was left alone without any conditions or support to maintain its aircraft," he said.
Radovanovic accused JAT Tehnika of charging the air carrier high prices for technical maintenance and of having unrealistic demands given the difficult economic situation.
JAT Tehnika Director Srdjan Miskovic said that 70% of the company’s revenues come from JAT Airways.
“Because of debt, we are forced to delay paying our employees. We must quickly find a solution. People have not received a salary for a month, Miskovic said.
According to domestic media reports, the Serbian government is working on resolving the dispute. JAT has announced it will transfer its passengers to other airlines.
